The Oakland Athletics’ primary announcer on NBC sports Glen Kuiper apologised after using a racial slur on air.

Before the game between Kansas City Royals and Oakland, alongside commentator Dallas Braden, Kuiper said: “We had a phenomenal day today. (N-word) league museum and Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque.”

However, Kuiper apologised on the broadcast for his remarks during the sixth inning.

"Welcome back to Kauffman Stadium. I just want to...a little earlier in the show, I said something, didn't come out quite the way I wanted it to," Kuiper said. "And I just wanted to apologise if it sounded different than I meant it to be said. And like I said, I just wanted to apologise for that."

However, the A’s have publicly denounced the long-time broadcaster’s language as they issued a statement on their twitter account saying they would address the situation.

This was not the first time insensitive comments were made by a professional baseball broadcaster.

Previously, MLB broadcaster Jim Kaat issued an on-air apology during Astros-White Sox playoff game in 2021, saying he used "a poor choice of words" after making an inappropriate remark.

Kaat also apologised to New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes after saying inappropriate words about him on June 2, 2022.

Another broadcaster, Jack Morris was suspended by Detroit’s TV broadcast after he used what was perceived to be a racist accent while talking about Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani on August 17, 2021.

Yet another broadcaster, Thom Brennanam was also suspended and then fired by Reds TV after he made a homophobic slur, which after 18 months turned out to be a career-ending mistake on August 19, 2020.
